Proofing focuses on grammar, spelling, and punctuation. If you've already had an editor or would like to clean up your work prior to sharing it with a writer's group, this is a fine option to select.
If you are looking to publish your work, you will need more than a proofreader.

The copyediting option includes the basics of proofreading. Additionally, it includes edits and suggestions to continuity, sentence structure, tone, and clarity.
Copyediting ensures readers will be able to clearly grasp your story without delving too deeply into the writing process.

Most authors looking to be published, whether it be traditional or self-published, need content editing. This extra set of eyes, of course, proofreads and copyedits, but with content editing the process is taken a step further. As your content editor, I review the work as a whole, with a specialized focus on plot, character development, and the flow of your writing. I also make recommendations and edits to the content without losing your unique voice.
Where do I start?
I recommend starting with a manuscript assessment. In this process, I complete a first-pass review of your work and provide you with a 10-15 page packet with big-picture notes, questions from a reader's perspective, and writing suggestions. I also include relevant articles, podcast episodes, or YouTube videos that I think may be helpful in addition to writing reflection tools and practices. The goal of a manuscript assessment is to provide a general evaluation of your book in its current form, help to develop you as an author and self-editor, and provide an estimate of what level of editing the manuscript likely needs. Prices are typically about $200 for a novella and $400 for a full-length novel.
If you've been working with a book coach or writing group, or have utilized beta readers, you may not need this step. Let's chat to determine the best starting point for you.
The timeframe for editing varies from one to three months. This is based on the length of your work, the number of revisions needed, and which editing option you've chosen. Typically, proofreading takes less time than content editing.
There is a range in price because every manuscript and every author is different.
I of course, provide sample edits. Please reach out to me to discuss.
